Pickleball Court Built Right from the Ground Up in Comox Valley

This one was a full build from scratch. The ground where this pickleball court now sits wasn't suitable for concrete - not even close. We had to excavate roughly 3 feet of unsuitable material before we even started thinking about what goes back in. That's not a small amount of digging. But skipping that step would've meant a slab that cracks, shifts, and fails. Not something we're willing to put our name on.

Once we hit good ground, the real work began. Structural fill went back in to rebuild a stable base, then we fine-tuned the grade with road crush to get everything dialed in tight before concrete ever touched the site. You can see the grade marks sprayed across the sub-base - that's us making sure every inch is exactly where it needs to be. Precision at this stage is what separates a court that lasts from one that doesn't.

With the base locked in and geotextile fabric laid down, the site was ready for Grey Coast Concrete Ltd to take over. They came in with the forms, the pump truck, and a full crew to get the pour done right. The rebar grid you can see laid out wall-to-wall is there to give the slab the strength it needs for long-term use - no shortcuts on a project like this.

The finished slab speaks for itself. Smooth, flat, and solid. That's what happens when the site prep is done properly before a single yard of concrete is ordered. The two go hand in hand - even the best concrete work can't save a bad base. Getting it right underground is what makes everything on top perform the way it should.
